Kyiv post Case Study

The Kyiv Post delivers exclusive political, economic, and entertainment news from Ukraine in English. The newspaper is available both in print and online.

The ein-des-ein team won a tender to develop a mobile application for Kyiv Post and was humbled by the opportunity to work on a project of such scale.

Challenge

Apart from creating an iOS application that delivers Ukrainian news to readers around the world, the main challenge was to integrate the existing web news portal with a mobile application. There were certain backend issues that initially became a particular obstacle.

The UX challenge was to help users conveniently navigate through a wealth of content and to keep the content structured.

Integration with the web version

The web version readers were used to had to be seamlessly integrated with the app version. Moreover, the app had to feel like a significant improvement.

Goals

Convenient content structure

The app structure needed to be well-designed to help improve the reading experience and extend the time spent in the app, thus increasing the DAU (daily active users) rate.

Effective subscription prompts

Subscription prompts had to be thought out and placed well to inspire readers to buy a subscription. Monetization opportunities were very important for Kiyv Post.

01. Onboarding screens

The onboarding process had to be simple and engaging enough to allow users greater familiarity with the new format of their beloved news source.

02. Integration with the web version

The right layout and meticulous UX/UI design work helped create an app that was easy to use for new and web version users alike.

03. Convenient content structure

Our team made a great effort to build an app that had a massive amount of content organized neatly and with the purpose of making it easy for readers to navigate it.

This feature allowed users to easily browse all content and find older and recent articles filtering by date and topic.

Result
