WALDO Case Study

ABOUT

We are 😀

Waldo is a service that helps users (both tourists and locals) to choose places i.e. restaurants, bars, clubs in the city depending on their current mood and preferences. It also gives the most useful information about these places including reviews, activity level, general vibe etc.

APP IDEA

Problem

There were no apps on the market that could help locals and city guests to find a perfect place quickly, based on their current mood. Some of them wanted to relax in a quiet restaurant without a huge crowd inside, while others searched for a club to hang out with friends and have fun. The task was to create a convenient tool where users could indicate which kind of place would meet their expectations at that moment and how many people they would like to see there.

WHAT WE DO

Solution

Based on the requirements and market research results, we were able to create a product with the connection to Google Places API to receive up-to-date info: visiting hours, pricing, reviews, interior photos. Besides the user-friendly interface creation, our task was to simplify the search process by implementing a quick 3-step quiz for the most relevant search result.

WHAT WE NEED TO DO

Goals

HOW WE DO THAT

Development

The application was created for Apple iOS specifically. Stack: Swift, Node.js, React. To collect data directly from Google, the Places API was also implemented.

FEATURES

Quiz

Three simple steps to find a perfect place for tonight! To simplify to search process, we created a 3-step solution to filter the results. By implementing understandable, globally recognized symbols, icons and emojis, we were able to avoid boring text blocks keeping the same meaning. While “blue” places were quiet and not busy, the “red” ones were crowded and ready for fun! Just specify your current mood on a scale from Chill to Party to see the list of options to choose from!

FEATURES

Place by mood

With such colorful indicators users can also find a perfect place right on the map. The icon shows a place type while its color indicates the number of visitors there (not busy, a little busy, crowded). Based on user’s geolocation, the service shows places nearby. After tapping on a specific place, users get the general info with reviews and activity level. There are four quick actions with the ability to tap right away: visit the place’s website, save it for later, call to book a table or get directions to go!

FEATURES

Share with friends

Twice the fun! Share your favorite place with a friend to go together. Send the link to your favorite messenger, add to favorites or save it to notes to come back later.
